Winbakup (for windows98)

November 22,2003

This little program is deigned to backup
the most critical Windows system files,
and give you a means to restore them even
when Windows won't start. It is not a full
system backup nor disk image. The back up
files may take 100 to 200 MB of disk space
depending on what you have on your system.
(Not designed for NT systems don't read NTFS)
What it does is creates zips of of many
windows files, and stores them in them
in the Winbakup folder with the program.
Restoring them just extracts them back to
the original location.Also uses scanreg
to backup and restore the registry, see
registry below.

files, folders, and shortcuts that were created
when extracted and setup.

To run WINBAKUP.A shortcut for it

WINBACUP can also be run from Dos, by shutting
down Windows and restarting in MS Dos,or selecting

or by using a boot disk, such as a Windows
98 STARTUP DISK.

Dos vs Windows
Running in DOS mode, outside of Windows the
files and programs on the hard drive are not in
use, and more can be accessed to write to and
restore.Running from in Windows, should also
be quicker. For more on running in DOS mode see
Windows Help.On the index tab look at DOS or MS-DOS.
